MOSCOW, February 26 (RIA Novosti) - The orbital altitude of the International Space Station (ISS) will be boosted by 5 km (3 miles), a spokesman for the Russian Mission Control Centre said on Tuesday.
"The ISS orbit correction will be controlled from Earth using thrusters on the Russian module Zvezda," the spokesman said.
Corrections to the space station's orbit are conducted periodically before launches of Russian cargo ships and U.S. shuttles to compensate for Earth's gravity and to safeguard successful dockings.
The last time the ISS orbit was corrected was in January, when the station was raised 5.25 kilometers (3.26 miles) to an altitude of around 340 kilometers (about 211 miles) over the Earth's surface.
