MOSCOW, November 1 (RIA Novosti) - US astronaut Sunita Williams and her Japanese colleague Akihiko Hoshide will make a spacewalk on Thursday outside the International Space Station (ISS) to isolate and repair an ammonia leak.

The spacewalk is scheduled to begin on November 1 at 16:10 Moscow time (12:10 GMT) and is expected to last six and a half hours.

The space station is equipped with eight huge solar arrays with each having its own associated power system and ammonia is used to cool down this gear.

The task of the spacewalk is to detect the source of the leak, which can put out of order one of the arrays if not isolated and repaired.

This will be the third spacewalk for Williams and Hoshide during their mission at the ISS. Their first spacewalk lasted 8 hours and 17 minutes and was the third longest in history.
