A court in southern Russia has sentenced rapper Noize MC to ten days in jail for publicly insulting members of police.

Noize MC lead singer Ivan Alexeyev, who attracted media attention with his song "Mercedes S-666" about a high-profile car crash involving the vice-president of Russia's oil giant LUKoil, in which two eminent doctors were killed in February, was arrested after a concert in the south Russian city of Volgograd on July 31.

The band's press release said that Alexeyev insulted police who tried to stop his "posse" carrying out one of their stage routines, involving the throwing of small change at the group by audience members.

Vera Sidelnikova, and her daughter-in-law, Olga Alexandrina, were killed on February 25 when their car collided with a Mercedes belonging to LUKoil's Anatoly Barkov, who denied that either he or his driver were at fault.
