Russian State Duma deputies said on Tuesday they expect a two-way exchange with Prime Minister and president-elect Vladimir Putin and a frank account of his performance over the past four years.

Putin is to address the State Duma on Wednesday with an annual report on his government’s policy course.

Sergei Zheleznyak of the ruling United Russia party said Putin should speak not only about the past year but the entire period he was head of government, including his “forecasts for the future.”

All factions will be able to ask Putin questions, he said.

Communist Ivan Melnikov said his faction would like to hear from Putin “a critical view of outstanding issues, not programmatic guidelines for members of the party of power or a monologue for TV viewers.”

The Communist Party faction had sent Putin a list of questions and expected to hear some answers to them, he said, adding that they should provide a basis for a no holds barred debate.

A Just Russia’s Mikhail Yemelyanov said his party would like to hear about a turnaround in the government’s socio-economic course based on “liberal dogma,” impeding economic growth and leading to “the degradation of the social sphere.”
