A gay pride parade held in downtown Tbilisi on Thursday ended in scuffles with members of the Georgian Union of Orthodox Parents, the GHN web portal reported.
The parade was organized by Georgia’s Identity LGBT movement to mark the International Day Against Homophobia; the event was approved by the city’s authorities.
Soon after several dozens participants of the parade started their campaign, they were stopped by a group of around 200 Orthodox parents; a tussle began and it soon erupted into violence. Other sources said that the anti-homosexual group comprised twenty angry parents and ten clerics.
Police had to intervene to stop the clashes. There were no reports of serious injuries.
