SPARTAK, CSKA COACHES: GERMAN REFEREE NICE ADDITION
MOSCOW, May 23 (RIA Novosti) - Spartak and CSKA's head coaches think that inviting a German referee added to their teams' game, they said at a press conference after the end of the Moscow derby, taken by Army squad CSKA 3-1. CSKA won the UEFA Cup last Wednesday.
"A foreigner was invited for the first time in the history of Russian football, and, in my opinion, he displayed an approach of principle. Besides that, his refereeing differed from Russian refereeing. He ignored many elements that our referees regard as fouls, and the tempo of play and its spectacular character were not adversely affected for this reason. We believe that the referee beautified the game," CSKA's Valery Gazzayev said.
"The referee stood above all and displayed high class," Alexander Starkov of Spartak said.
Gazzayev said that his charges displayed top professional skill in the match against Spartak.
"The match was hard. Not a lot of time passed after the UEFA Cup final, and it was difficult for the players. But they manifested the highest professional skill," Gazzayev said.
Gazzayev said that his players' Saturday meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin gave them additional energy.
