MOSCOW, November 8 (RIA Novosti) - Twenty-four years after his death, Soviet hockey legend Valery Kharlamov was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto late Monday, becoming the fourth Russian to be given the honor.

The ceremony was held at BCE Place and attended by head of the Russian Sports Agency and former Kharlamov teammate defenseman Vyacheslav Fetisov.

"Kharlamov was the personification of Russia's hockey style. He was a high-speed and assertive virtuoso with a real man's character," Fetisov said.

Valeri Kharlamov recorded 293 goals and 214 assists in 436 games with the CSKA Moscow Red Army club. He participated in 11 consecutive IIHF world and European championships, having won eight titles with the Soviet national team, along with Olympic gold in 1972 and 1976.

Kharlamov died at age 33 in an automobile accident.

Vyacheslav Fetisov was the third Russian inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame after coach Anatoly Tarasov and goaltender Vladislav Tretiak.
