MOSCOW, November 17 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian Olympic team could win gold medals in skiing, biathlon, and figure skating at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, head of the Russian Federal Agency for Physical Culture and Sport said Thursday.

Vyacheslav Fetisov said it was still difficult to count on success in other sporting events. "It is important now to form a solid financial basis to aspire for a larger number of medals," he said.

He also said that preparations for the upcoming Olympics had been going according to a plan. "The agency fulfilled all of its obligations with the federations of winter sports," Fetisov said.

He added that Russia had created an excellent system of bonuses for medallists at the Olympics in Italy ranging from $150,000 to $300,000.
