Ukrainian billionaire set to buy Bulgaria's CSKA soccer club

MOSCOW, January 25 (RIA Novosti) - Ukraine's billionaire Rinat Akhmetov, who owns Ukrainian Shakhtar Donetsk FC, plans to buy Bulgaria's CSKA Sofia FC, Bulgarian media said on Friday.

The media said that Akhmetov, who is famous as the Diamond Boss, had reached a preliminary agreement on the purchase of the club from current owner Primod Mittal, an Indian businessman.

Mittal bought the soccer club over a year ago from Bulgarian businessman Vasil Bojkov, but failed to repay the whole price and currently owes him about 15 million euro (about $22 million).

American AIG insurance company, which is the official sponsor of England's Manchester United FC, also expressed an intereste in purchasing shares in CSKA Sofia, which is a 30-time Bulgarian Champion.
