Russia's Andreyev wins ATP award

MOSCOW, March 26 (RIA Novosti) - The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) named Russian tennis player Igor Andreyev as Comeback Player of the Year during its annual awards ceremony held in Miami, U.S. on Tuesday.

The official ATP website said "the 24-year-old Russian came back from a left knee injury in 2006 to finish in the Top 50 for the third time in four years."

Andreyev underwent knee surgery in April 2006, missing nearly six months and finishing the year at No. 90 in the ATP rankings. He slid to a low of No. 235 in April 2007 but finished the season at No. 33.

The Men's World No. 1, Roger Federer from Switzerland, won three awards, taking the Player of the Year, the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Presented by Stanford, and the ATPtennis.com Fans' Favorite titles.
