CSKA Moscow's president has denied rumors that the club's Brazilian striker, Vagner Love, is set to leave the side when the winter transfer window opens.
MOSCOW, November 11 (RIA Novosti) - CSKA Moscow's president has denied rumors that the club's Brazilian striker, Vagner Love, is set to leave the side when the winter transfer window opens.

"He isn't planning on going anywhere," Yevgeny Giner told the Sovetski-Sport newspaper, the day after Love hit all the side's goals in a 4-1 win at Moskva FC, to bring his total for the season to 17.

Giner did say, however, that the former Red Army side would only release their leading players if they received offers from "significant clubs."

"If offers are made for our players by, let's say, Fulham or Levante, the footballers themselves won't want to leave. If offers come from Real, or Manchester United, or other significant clubs, then we will be obliged to let them go," he said.

Love had earlier been linked with a possible move to either Manchester City or Tottenham, both currently in the bottom half of the English Premier League.

CSKA sold another Brazilian striker, Jo, to Manchester City at the beginning of the English season.

"I will only believe there is interest in me when the president of CSKA tells me. There is no point in believing rumors. Every time the season comes to an end or the transfer window is about to open I am linked with a move to another club. However, as you see, I'm still playing for CSKA, and I get immense satisfaction from doing so," Love told the Russian Sport-Express daily in late October.

The striker has been at CSKA since 2004. In that time he has won two Russian Premier League titles, and in 2005 helped the team become the first Russian side to win a European trophy, scoring the third goal as CSKA defeated Sporting Lisbon in the UEFA Cup final. He has also been called up for the national side, scoring five goals in 21 games.

CSKA's win over Moskva FC left the side in second place, three points ahead of third-placed Dynamo with two games of the season remaining. Rubin FC have already secured their first title.

In the 2009/10 season, for the first time, the top three teams in the Russian Premier League will qualify for the Champions League. The top two clubs will go into the group stages, with the third-placed team starting in the second qualifying round. The fourth- and fifth-placed teams will enter the UEFA Cup, while the bottom two sides are relegated.

The Russian season runs from March to November.
