Russia beat Canada 2-1 to win world hockey championship

Russia won World Ice Hockey Championship in Berne on Sunday by beating Canada 2-1. This is Russia’s second successive final victory over the same opponents.

MOSCOW, May 11 (RIA Novosti) - Russia won World Ice Hockey Championship in Berne on Sunday by beating Canada 2-1.

This is Russia's second successive final victory over the same opponents.

Canada's Jason Spezza opened the scoring in the first period but Russia's Oleg Saprykin levelled the score and Alexander Radulov put Russia ahead 2:1 in the second period with under five minutes remaining on the clock.

Russia now has 25 world hockey championship golds, one more than Canada.
