Moscow, July 16 (RIA Novosti) - After an evening of upset after upset, the Russian Cup has been left with just four top-level clubs in the last 16.
The last 32 of the Russian Cup pairs Premier League sides with lower division clubs, with the underdogs getting home advantage.
While many of the Premier League clubs fielded weakened sides on Wednesday, cup holders CSKA Moscow fielded an almost full-strength team in their 1-0 defeat to Ural, from the Urals city of Yekaterinburg.
Other top level scalps were 2008 Premier League champions Rubin, who lost 4-3 after extra time to Volga Tver, Champions League debutants Dynamo Moscow, who went down 2-0 to Volgar Gazprom, Lokomotiv Moscow, who were humbled 2-1 by Far East side CKA-Energiya, and 2004 Cup winner Terek Grozny, who fell 2-1 to Mordoviya.
The only four Premier League teams to make the last 16 were Zenit St. Petersburg, Amkar, Spartak Moscow and FC Moskva.
The winner of the Russian Cup earns a place in the Europa League, the newly-revamped UEFA Cup.
