MOSCOW, October 9 (RIA Novosti) - Jacques Rogge was elected on Friday for a four-year second term as president of the International Olympic Committee.

Rogge, a 67-year-old Belgian sports official, was elected by 88 votes to one at Friday's IOC session in Copenhagen, the committee's official website said. Three members abstained and one vote was declared invalid.

"We will narrow the gap in sport between the developed and the developing worlds; and between men and women. We will redouble our efforts to place sport at the service of mankind - to inspire young and old alike; to give athletes the opportunity to lead by example; and promote the Olympic values of fair play, respect, solidarity and the pursuit of excellence," Rogge said after the vote.

Presidents of the IOC are elected to serve an eight-year term and may be reelected, but for a four-year term.

Rogge was elected for his first term at an IOC session in Moscow in July 2001. He replaced Juan Antonio Samaranch, who had led the organization from 1980.
