The day's surprise came when Russian snowboarder Yekaterina Ilyukhina snatched the Olympic silver in ladies' parallel giant slalom.

Germany, Sweden, Canada, and China grabbed the gold medals in the women's slalom, the women's curling final, the men's 5,000 meters short track, and the women's 1,000 meters short track final.

With 10 gold medals in its store, Canada soared to the first position in the overall gold medal count on Day 15. The United States leads in overall medals with 34, followed by Germany (27) and the host of the Games, Canada, with 21 medals overall, with Norway on Canada's heels down by one medal.
