Canada defeated the U.S. 3-2 in the final men's hockey match on the last day of the Vancouver Olympics, bringing the number of its gold medals to 14.

Canada's Jonathan Toews scored the first goal in the 13th minute of the first period. A minute later, U.S.'s Bobby Ryan was sent to the penalty box for tripping.

Soon after the start of the second period, at 02:33, his teammate Ryan Malone received a two-minute penalty for high sticking, and Canada's Eric Staal was sent off the ice for two minutes for interference at 04:41.

Canada's Corey Perry scored the second goal for his team in the 8th minute of the second period.

The Canadian fans were disappointed when Jonathan Toews received a penalty for tripping a minute later and when U.S.'s Ryan Kesler scored a goal  in the 13th minute of the second period.

Canada was ready to celebrate victory, leading 2-1 in the third period, when U.S.'s Zach Parise tied the score just 25 seconds before the end of the period, sending the game to overtime.

NHL star Sidney Crosby brought victory to the Canadians, scoring the third goal in the 8th minute of the overtime period.

The U.S. team failed to repeat its success in a preliminary-round game last Sunday, when it defeated Canada 5-3.

The match was the last event of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
