The 1980 Moscow Summer Olympic Torch will be installed at the Luzhniki Walk of Fame at the international sport forum, Moscow Deputy Mayor Sergei Baidakov said on Monday.

The international forum Russia Is A Sport Power will be held in Moscow from July 29 to August 2.

The purpose of the forum is the development of the Olympic ideals, the support of international cooperation in sports, the promotion of healthy life-styles and anti-doping measures.

Celebrations of the 30th anniversary of the 1980 Moscow Summer Olympics will be among the highlights of the forum.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov, Russian sports stars and culture figures are expected to attend the celebrations.

“The Olympic Torch will be unveiled at the Walk of Fame. It is the torch that was burning on the arena in 1980,” Baidakov said.

The decision about the reconstruction of the torch and its installation as a symbolic sign was made by the top management of Luzhniki sports center.

Luzhniki general director Vladimir Alyoshin was the initiator and the author of this idea.

The installation ‘Moscow-80’ featuring the main stages of the preparations for the 1980 Olympics, will be opened at the Walk of Fame during the forum.

According to Baidakov, over 90 champions and winners of the Olympics-1980 will attend the forum and they will be awarded special memorial medals.
