Police detained 136 fans in Moscow as Spartak defeated visitors Zenit St. Petersburg on Wednesday evening, police said on Thursday.

The match was due to take place in August but was postponed as the city was gripped by a toxic cloud of smog caused by nearby wildfires.

The game, attended by 30,000 fans, including 4,000 from Russia’s northern capital, saw a 1-0 win for Spartak courtesy of a last minute penalty. The defeat was the first league leaders Zenit have suffered all season.

Spartak Moscow manager and Zenit star Igor Densiov also clashed after the match and had to be dragged apart. A number of other scuffles among players and training staff also broke out.

Zenit are six points clear of 2nd placed Rubin with one game in hand and seven point clear of third placed CSKA Moscow, who like the leaders have six games left to play.

Spartak are in fourth, seven points behind CSKA, with five games left.
