Former Soviet national football team goalkeeper Vladimir Maslachenko, who later became a renowned television commentator, died on Sunday at the age of 74.
Ukrainian-born Maslachenko, who played for Spartak Moscow and was named the Soviet Union's best goalkeeper in 1961, suffered a stroke on November 18.
He was hospitalized and remained in serious condition until his death.
President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin expressed their condolences to the football legend's friends and family.
Maslachenko will be buried on Wednesday, his son told Sovsport.ru. The time and place of the burial ceremony will be revealed later.
