Russia's Bratchikova Scores Second Upset at Australian Open

Grand slam debutant Nina Bratchikova scored her second upset of the Australian Open on Wednesday, beating Italian Alberta Brianti in straight sets to march into the third round.

Grand slam debutant Nina Bratchikova scored her second upset of the Australian Open on Wednesday, beating Italian Alberta Brianti in straight sets to march into the third round.
The 26-year-old Russian, ranked 136 in the world, swept aside the world No. 71 with the score 6-2, 6-1 to set up a meeting with the unseeded Czech Iveta Benesova.
The 11-year tour veteran Bratchikova, who qualified for her first-ever grand slam, ousted 19th seed Flavia Pennetta, also of Italy, in the first round 6-3, 1-6, 6-2.
Another second-round upset came when Romina Oprandi of Switzerland upset Italy's 10th seed, Francesca Schiavone, 6-4, 6-3.
In other play, top seed Caroline Wozniacki beat Georgia's Anna Tatishvili 6-1 7-6 (4), to face Romania's Monica Niculescu in round three, where they are joined by Belgian Kim Clijsters, the 11th seed who thrashed Stephanie Foretz Gacon of France 6-0, 6-1.
China's fifth seed Li Na brushed aside the unseeded Olivia Rogowska of Australia 6-2, 6-2.
In men's play, Spaniard Rafael Nadal, seeded second, beat Tommy Haas of Germany 6-4, 6-3, 6-4, and seventh seed Tomas Berdych overcame Belgium's Olivier Rochus 6-1, 6-0, 7-6 (4).
