The goaltender of the 1992 Olympic gold medal-winning ice hockey team has been found safe in Moscow after going missing for three days, police said.

Mikhail Shtalenkov, who had a lengthy NHL career, disappeared after flying into Moscow from Magnitogorsk, where he is a coach for KHL team Metallurg.

Shtalenkov’s wife managed to contact him by phone, Moscow police said.

“The coach’s spouse reported to the police officers liaising with her that she had managed to reach her husband by telephone,” Moscow police said in a statement Tuesday.

“On Wednesday she should come into the police station to write an appropriate statement withdrawing her original claim, after which the Shtalenkov case will be closed.”

Shtalenkov won gold at the Barcelona Olympics at the age of 27 with the Unified Team of ex-Soviet athletes.

During his career he won three Soviet and Russian titles and played for NHL teams the Anaheim Ducks, Edmonton Oilers, Phoenix Coyotes and Florida Panthers.

The KHL team where he coaches, Metallurg, reached this season’s Eastern Conference semifinals, but was defeated by Avangard Omsk last week.
