Only safety guarantees from Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone will ensure the 2012 Bahrain Grand Prix goes ahead with all the teams on the grid, Vitaly Petrov's manager told RIA Novosti on Wednesday.

Political instability in the Middle Eastern nation has put the April 20 race under threat after last year's edition was canceled a mere three days before it was to begin.

Oksana Kosachenko, Petrov's manager, said the F1 teams had "divided into two camps" on whether the Grand Prix should go ahead.

Ecclestone had earlier emphasized that "commercial agreements oblige the teams to participate, but final decision will be up to them."

"If Bernie Ecclestone guarantees us safety and tranquility and promises the race won't become an instrument of any political manipulations we will come," Kosachenko said.

She added that "extra security of the teams is necessary in the hotels, and the spectators should be guarded at least twice as well."

Vitaly Petrov brought millions of euros in sponsorship to become a member of Caterham's 2012 lineup after he was dropped last year by Lotus Renault.

Petrov crashed out of the season opener in Melbourne, Australia, before finishing 16th at his team's home Grand Prix in Malaysia last month.

The Chinese Grand Prix is this weekend in Shanghai.
