Russia has topped the medal table at this weekend's European Judo Championships after taking five golds, two silver and a bronze.

Russia has topped the medal table at this weekend's European Judo Championships after taking five golds, two silver and a bronze.

France took second place in the medal table with two gold, a silver and three bronze, with Romania third on two golds from tournament, which is held annually.

Russia's three-time world champion Alexander Mikhaylin took home a sixth European crown by defeating Hungary's Barna Bor in the over 100 kg division final.

Alim Gadanov, bronze medalist at the 2008 and 2009 championships, went two better this year, beating Poland's Tomasz Kowalski in the under 66 kg final.

In the under 81 kg category, Sirazhudin Magomedov beat countryman Murat Khabachirov to take the gold.

Beslan Mudranov beat Armenia's Hovhannes Davtyan in the under 60 kg final.

Russia's only gold in the women's event was won by Elena Ivashchenko in the over 78 kg division, overcoming Slovenia's Lucija Polavder in the final.

Fourty-five countries were represented at the championships, which end Sunday.
