NHL stars Alexander Ovechkin and Alexander Semin will join up with the Russian national team at the world hockey championships, Russian Hockey Federation executive director Valery Fesyuk told RIA Novosti on Sunday.

Ovechkin and Semin will arrive in Stockholm on Wednesday in time for the quarterfinal stage of the tournament, Fesyuk said.

Both forwards play for the NHL’s Washington Capitals, who were eliminated from the Stanley Cup playoffs in a decider against the New York Rangers on Saturday.

“We’ve already talked things through with Ovechkin and Semin, they’re coming to the world championships,” Fesyuk said.

“We’re doing all the documents, solving the issue of insurance and we expect them in Stockholm on the 16th for the quarterfinal. Obviously these two players seriously strengthen our team.”

Ovechkin and Semin will miss Russia’s final two group stage games, against the Czech Republic on Sunday and Italy on Monday.
