Former Columbus Blue Jackets and Ottawa Senators defenseman Filip Novak has signed a one-year contract extension with Gagarin Cup winners Dynamo Moscow, the team announced Wednesday.

Novak joined in 2010, playing a part in Dynamo's maiden KHL championship win this season after his previous team, Hockey Club MVD, merged with Dynamo that year.

The 30-year-old Czech made 58 appearances, 19 in the playoffs, scoring 17 points in the 2011-12 season.

Drafted by the New York Rangers in 2000, Novak overcame injury in 2004 to play for the Senators before joining Columbus in 2006 as an unrestricted free agent.

His route to Dynamo Moscow took him via Czech team Ceske Budejovice and the KHL's Dinamo Riga, spending a season at each.
