Ukrainan President Viktor Yanukovich Friday signed into law a bill banning smoking and tobacco advertising at Euro 2012 stadiums.

The law also forbids the sale of cigarettes or any tobacco products at the country's four venues in Kharkov, Dnipropetrovsk, Lvov and the capital, Kiev for the event, which runs June 8 through July 1.

The also frustrates loophole merchants hoping to offer cigarettes as free gifts with other groceries.

Ukraine's parliament in late May approved legislation prohibiting smoking in all public places, setting out penalties of up to $1,250.

UEFA said in October it would enforce a ban at all Euro 2012 stadiums, including those in the four cities of co-host Poland.

Some Euro 2012 stadiums such as the Donbass Arena in the east of Ukraine have already banned smoking, but with varying degrees of success.
