Russian President Vladimir Putin is considering attending judo competitions at the upcoming Summer Olympics in London, his press secretary Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday.
“President Putin wished [British Prime Minister David] Cameron success at the Olympic Games and said he was thinking about attending the Olympics to watch some judo events,” Peskov said after a meeting between Putin and Cameron on the sidelines of the G-20 summit in Los Cabos, Mexico.
“He will make the final decision later,” the press secretary said.
Putin, 59, is a judo black belt and an Honorary President of the International Judo Federation and the European Judo Union.
He is Russia’s most famous judo exponent and the co-author of a book entitled "Let's Learn Judo with Vladimir Putin".
London will host the 2012 Summer Olympic Games on July 27-August 12.
