Russia is to compete in 12 of the 20 Paralympic sports in London in August, ranging from football to fencing, the vice-president of the Russian Paralympic Committee told R-Sport on Monday.
Russia will also send a record 182 athletes, up from 150 at the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing, Anatoly Tsarik said.
“The Russian Paralympic team will compete in 12 sports out of the 20 included in the Paralympic program,” he said.
“That’s athletics, swimming, table tennis, powerlifting, shooting, archery, rowing, judo, cycling, seven-a-side football, volleyball and fencing.”
Tsarik predicted success for Russia’s Paralympians in London, pointing out that the country had risen up the medals table in each of the last four Games, reaching eighth place in Beijing.
“We’re constantly progressing and we intend to continue to move forward in London too,” he said.
Russia won 63 medals in Beijing, 18 of them gold.
