Former Valencia defender Angel Dealbert believes his new club FC Kuban is determined to qualify for Europe this season and the Champions League could be a realistic target soon, he told RIA Novosti on Thursday.

Coached by former Chelsea right-back Dan, Kuban finished a surprise eighth in the Russian league last season after being promoted from the second tier.

"I was pleasantly surprised by the attitude of my new teammates. They are eager to surpass the club's achievement last year and get into the zone of the European cups," said Dealbert.

"Kuban has the potential to grow to the level of the Russian championship leaders, CSKA [Moscow] and Zenit [St. Petersburg]."

"I think that in three to four years the Krasnodar club [Kuban] will fight for a place in the Champions League."

The Russian league is rapidly becoming one of Europe's top competitions, Dealbert added.

Dealbert spent the last three seasons in the Primera Division with Valencia, where he made 64 appearances after joining from Castellon in 2009.

His contact expired in June, allowing him to sign a three-year deal with Kuban.
