An Olympic tennis player said Monday that it takes too long for players to travel from the Olympic village to Wimbledon, where the tennis is to be held.

The controversial Olympic road lanes reserved for athletes and officials do not open until Wednesday, and Galina Voskoboeva, who will play for Kazakhstan, said that this had caused her problems.

Olympic tennis is one of the first events to start, with matches beginning Saturday.

“I was waiting for the bus to go from the #Olympics Village to #Wimbledon for 1hour 10 min! It was late because of the traffic,” Voskoboeva wrote on Twitter, adding two signs used in Russian-speaking countries to show unhappiness.

“And they will open the special lane only from Wednesday! Why from Wednesday? This is a decision of the mayor of London. Well...”

The journey of around 20 kilometers eventually took Voskoboeva two and a half hours, she said.

The Olympic lanes have provoked widespread criticism in London, with some dubbing them “Zil lanes”, a reference to the special parts of the road reserved for senior bureaucrats in the Soviet Union.

Voskoboeva is a doubles specialist who will represent Kazakhstan with Yaroslava Shvedova at the Olympics, as well as entering the singles.
