The opening ceremony of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics should be as good as the ceremony for the London games on Friday, but with a Russian twist, Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev said Saturday.

Friday's opening ceremony was an innovative portrayal of 250 years of British achievements in propelling civilization forward and celebrated the country's music and films.

The 60,000 people at London's Olympic Stadium were rocked by British band the Arctic Monkeys and rapper Dizzee Rascal before Paul McCartney marked the lighting of the cauldron with choruses of the Beatles classic "Hey Jude."

An acclaimed moment saw James Bond, in the shape of actor Daniel Craig, meet the Queen, who played herself.

"The ceremony, in my opinion, was very strong and very British," said Medvedev.

"And now we have to do one that isn't less strong, but a Russian one. I really liked the music, I love British music. But this is a British ceremony and we need a Russian one."

Medvedev repeated a suggestion by an online fan that the Sochi ceremony should be overseen by director Nikita Mikhalkov, whose film Burnt by the Son won an Oscar, and feature Eurovision-winning singer Dima Bilan.
