Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has urged to correct the information in the Russian Olympic team members’ bio, published on the official website of the London Olympic games, by putting Ukraine as the birth place to the profiles of the athletes of the Ukrainian descent, Foreign Ministry’s spokesman Alexander Dikusarov said on Tuesday.
“As of August 6, the information about four athletes from Russian Olympic team needs to be reviewed. Ukrainian embassy in Britain has carried out a telephone conversation with the head of the Ukrainian Olympic Committee in London, demanding to deliver our concern with the situation to the Games’ organizers,” Dikusarov said, adding that Ukrainian foreign body would monitor the situation.
Prior to the London Olympics, the Ukrainian Olympic Committee has appealed to the organizers to correct the bio of the Ukrainian athletes by changing birth place from Russian federation to Ukraine.
The Olympics’ organizers have partially reviewed the text, Dikusarov said.
The Georgian Olympic Committee has also demanded to correct the bio of Besik Kudukhov and Denis Tsargush, Russian freestyle wrestlers of South Ossetian and Abkhazian descent who, according to the London Olympics’ website, were born in Russian Federation.
Georgia does not recognize the sovereignty of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, labeling them as “occupied territories.”
