In an example of eccentric coaching techniques, 19th century composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky is the new inspiration for a top Russian women’s volleyball team.

New Dutch coach Avital Selinger is encouraging the musical approach to training at Dynamo Krasnodar, which he described at a media conference ahead of the new season.

“The team should move around the court according to his music,” he said.

“When the cello sounds, the team’s movements should be smooth, but when the percussion starts, they should be powerful.”

“If you close your ears and look at the team’s play, you will heat the hear music in their actions.”

Selinger joined in April, and said Wednesday the recent signing Destinee Hooker, who won an Olympic silver medal with the United States earlier this month, had been at his request.
