MOSCOW, August 16 (RIA Novosti)
KHL newcomer Slovan Bratislava has signed Miroslav Satan on a trial contract, the KHL said Thursday.
Satan won the Stanley Cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2009, the high point of an NHL career that included 1,050 regular season appearances.
Satan previously played for Slovan during the 2004 NHL lockout and last season, when the team was in the Slovakian league.
His last stint in the KHL was with Dynamo Moscow in the 2010-11 season, when his contract was not renewed after the season ended.
Trial contracts in the KHL are effective only in the preseason and allow players to evaluate players.
A trial contract must expire no later than three days before the start of the regular season.
The new KHL season starts September 4.

The growing outright rivalry between the United States and China gives Russia more foreign policy weight, enabling it to assume the role of a balancer. So far it has been doing so rather skillfully. Today it may participate in a joint naval exercise with China that Beijing positions as outwardly anti-American. But tomorrow it can team up with the naval forces of the Old World.
