United States men’s volleyball team outside hitter Matt Anderson will move to Russia next month to join up with his new team Zenit Kazan, the team said Tuesday.
Anderson, a three-time All-American while at Pennsylvania State University, turned professional in 2009 and has since played in the South Korean and Italian leagues, two of the world’s major competitions.
“Anderson will come into the Zenit squad in September,” team spokesman Ravil Rakhmatullin said.
“The players in the team who were on duty with national teams have been given time off until August 30, but all the others are now training at the base.”
Zenit formed the core of Russia’s gold medal-winning men’s team, sending five players and coach Vladimir Alenko.
Zenit won the Russian title last season as well as Europe’s Champions League.
