Talks are under way to bring Germany’s DTM touring car series and the World Touring Car Championship to Russia for the first time, a spokesperson for the newly-opened Moscow Raceway told R-Sport on Wednesday.
MotoGP motorbike racing could follow if a suitable promoter can be found, spokesperson Tatyana Makhina said.
“There are no contracts, there are negotiations,” Makhina said when asked whether the track management was in talks with DTM and WTCC organizers.
Track manager Ekaterina Beltsevich said last month that the owners planned to extend the track to 5.5 kilometers in length and modify it to conform with the FIM A standard required to host MotoGP.
The work will only start if a suitable promoter is found, Makhina said.
“If a promoter appears who will bring MotoGP to the track, then definitely all the changes will be made,” she said, adding that the work would only happen if the promoter agreed to pay for it and “if negotiations with MotoGP are at a good level”.
“Hosting MotoGP is not planned yet,” she said.
Moscow Raceway opened in July and has since hosted rounds of the Renault World Series, Superbike world championship and FIA GT1 world championship.
Moscow Raceway is contracted to hold the Superbike world championship until 2016, and Makhina said she expected to announce a date for next year's Renault World Series round within a month.
