Colorado Avalanche goaltender Semyon Varlamov will return to Lokomotiv Yaroslavl for the NHL lockout, a source at the KHL team told R-Sport on Tuesday.
The source said a contract should be signed by the end of the Tuesday.
Varlamov, 24, was at Lokomotiv since he was 11 and played for two years for the main team before moving to North America in 2008
He spent last season in Colorado after three years with the Washington Capitals, making a total of 131 NHL appearances.
Varlamov also won the World Championships with the Russian national team in May.
Lokomotiv spent the summer assembling a team for its return to the KHL after the entire roster was killed in a plane crash at the start of last season that left 44 people dead.
The deadline for averting a lockout passed Saturday after the NHL and the players’ association failed to agree terms on a new collective contract.
It sparked a flurry of trades, the highest-profile of which has been Evgeni Malkin's return to Metallurg Magnitogorsk.
