Winnipeg Jets forward Nikolai Antropov will play for Barys Astana in his homeland of Kazakhstan as the lockout runs on, the KHL team said Wednesday.

Antropov, 32, will arrive in Moscow on Thursday to sign a lockout contract to play top-level hockey in his home country for the first time, the team said on its website.

He previously represented Russian teams Dynamo Moscow, Ak Bars Kazan and Lokomotiv Yaroslavl.

The center moved to North America in 1999 to spend nine seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs, a year at the New York Rangers and two seasons with the Atlanta Thrashers and before moving to Winnipeg.

Over his NHL career, Antropov has racked up 455 points in 783 games.

The forward may debut on Saturday in the away game against the KHL leader Lev Prague, which signed Calgary Flames left wing Jiri Hudler and Philadelphia Flyers right wing Jakub Voracek on Tuesday.

The deadline for averting a lockout passed Saturday after the NHL and the players’ association failed to agree terms on a new collective contract.

It sparked a flurry of trades, the highest-profile of which has been Evgeni Malkin's return to Metallurg Magnitogorsk.
