Ukrainian defenseman of the Calgary Flames Anton Babchuk has returned to his home to join Donbass Donetsk, the KHL announced on its website Friday.

Babchuk has already acquired KHL experience while playing for Avangard Omsk in 2009-2010 season.

He also played for Ak Bars Kazan and SKA St. Petersburg before moving to the NHL in 2003.

Babchuk racked up 107 points in 295 NHL appearances playing for the Chicago Blackhawks, Carolina Hurricanes and Calgary.

The 28 year old became the third lockout signing of KHL newcomer Donbass after contracts were agreed with forwards Ruslan Fedotenko of the Philadelphia Flyers and Alexei Ponikarovsky of the Winnipeg Jets.

According to KHL regulations, each team may sign a maximum of three players from the North American league during the lockout.

Donbass is the second KHL team to fill this quota after Metallurg Magnitogorsk signed last season’s MVP Evgeni Malkin, Ottawa Senators defenseman Sergei Gonchar and Nikolai Kulemin of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
