Dynamo Kiev have parted company with coach Yuri Semin a day after a heavy defeat to bitter Ukrainian rivals Shakhtar Donetsk, Dynamo said Monday.
Semin had coached Dynamo since 2010 after an earlier spell with the club between 2007 and 2009, when he won the Ukrainian Premier League with the team, as well as reaching the semifinals of the UEFA Cup.
Dynamo have lost four of their last five matches, with Semin’s final game in charge a 4-1 defeat at Shakhtar in the Ukrainian Cup on Sunday.
That followed a 4-1 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League five days earlier.
“Dynamo Kiev football club thanks Yuri Pavlovich Semin and the whole of the team’s coaching staff for their work together and wishes them success in their further activities,” the club said in a website statement.
“It will soon be reported who will prepare the team for their upcoming matches.”
Semin’s Dynamo finished runners-up to Shakhtar in last year’s Ukrainian championship, trailing the Donetsk team by four points.
Semin had a brief spell as Russia coach in 2005, and has spent 18 years as coach of Lokomotiv Moscow in three separate spells.
