Buffalo Sabres defenseman Andrej Sekera has returned to his native Slovakia to join Slovan Bratislava for the lockout, the KHL team said Thursday.

Sekera, 26, signed with the Sabres in 2006 after playing in the Slovak Extraliga and the Ontario Hockey League.

He played 310 games during his six seasons with Buffalo, scoring 16 goals and recording 65 assists.

He represented Slovakia during the world championships in May, where his team claimed silver, losing to Russia 6-2 in the final.

Slovan made its first lockout signing last week as defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky moved to the KHL newcomer from the New York Islanders.

Slovan is currently third in the Western Conference and on a five-game winning streak.
