Big-spending Anzhi outclassed Swiss opponents young Boys Bern in their 2-0 win in the Europa League on Thursday, Anzhi's ex-Chelsea wing-back Yuri Zhirkov said Thursday.
The expensively assembled Anzhi team is in its first European campaign since silverware-hungry billionaire owner Suleiman Kerimov bought the club last year.
Two goals from ex-Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o brought Anzhi a 2-0 win at Moscow's Lokomotiv stadium.
"There were a lot chances, we scored two goals. We won on class," Zhirkov said.
His teammate Oleg Shatov said fixture congestion had hurt the quality of Anzhi's game, but Zhirkov said playing twice a week was benefiting the club.
"Playing is always a lot better than training, so we're pleased that we're playing this schedule," he said.
"A lot of games, more match practice, that's important for us."
Russian Premier League leaders Anzhi have played six games in the last three weeks, and face Dynamo Moscow away in the league Sunday.
