Anzhi Makhachkala issued an appeal to fans Tuesday to maintain public order ahead of Saturday's Russian Premier League game against Spartak Moscow in the capital of Dagestan.

Some fear ethnic tensions may spark crowd trouble, especially in the wake of recent clashes in Moscow that have led police to issue their own public order warnings.

“Games between Anzhi and Spartak are known for high levels of player commitment, inexhaustible motivation and an uncompromising battle on the pitch,” Anzhi said in a statement.

“The upcoming match is a holiday for everyone, and we ask fans to decorate it with responsible behavior.”

Scuffles were reported between fans after Anzhi's 3-0 win at Spartak in April.

Guus Hiddink’s team are top of the Russian Premier League with 26 points after 11 games, while the Muscovites are on sixth with 19 points.
