Igor Lebedenko's 65th-minute volley earned Terek Grozny a hard-fought 1-0 win at Amkar Perm on Sunday, lifting the Chechen side to second in the Russian Premier League table.
The Russian forward connected with Mauricio's pinpoint cross to score his fifth league goal of the season and take his team to within four points of leaders Anzhi Makhachkala.
Third-placed CSKA Moscow can retake second with a win against Rubin Kazan later Sunday.
Amkar, who remain 10th on 15 points, had defended doggedly and came close on several occasions, chiefly through striker Pavel Ignatovich.
The hosts even had the ball in the net on 63 minutes, but substitute Sergei Volkov was adjudged to have fouled a defender before smashing into the roof of the net.
Anzhi had gone five points clear at the top on Saturday with a last-gasp 2-1 win over Spartak Moscow. FC Krasnodar beat Alania Vladikavkaz 2-0 and Zenit St. Petersburg beat FC Kuban 1-0 in the other games of the day.
Later Sunday, David Bentley's FC Rostov host Lokomotiv Moscow, and on Monday FC Volga travel to Samara to face Krylya Sovetov.
