Russia No. 1 Mikhail Youzhny completed a straight-sets win over Matthew Ebden of Australia in the second round of the Swiss Indoors on Thursday.
Sixth seed Youzhny hit six aces to Ebden’s to overcome the 24-year-old 6-3, 6-1 on the hard court in Basel.
Youzhny will face third seed Richard Gasquet of France in the quarterfinal.
Another Russian at the tournament, Nikolay Davydenko, faces France’s Paul-Henri Mathieu later Thursday in the second round, while Andrey Kuznetsov lost to Julien Benneteau 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the first round.
The prize fund for the tournament is €1.4 million.

News that Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin would resign in order to run for the mayoral election in September came as quite a shock. Sobyanin’s political potential is fairly dubious, not to mention his approval ratings. He has not finished many of the projects he initiated and the electoral effect from these projects is expected to come a bit later than September 2013. Sobyanin’s opponents were not entirely unprepared for this blitzkrieg.
