Czechs Beats Finland at U20 Hockey Champs

The Czech Republic grabbed its first win at the 2013 world junior hockey championships on Friday, defeating Finland 3-1.

MOSCOW, December 28 (R-Sport) – The Czech Republic grabbed its first win at the 2013 world junior hockey championships on Friday, defeating Finland 3-1.

Both teams have three points after two games, as the Czechs lost 4-1 to the reigning champion Sweden and Finland gained an easy 5-1 victory over Latvia.

Czech forward Tomas Hyka scored the opener on 15 minutes before defenseman Marek Hrbas doubled the lead two minutes later on a powerplay.

Then, Finnish forward Teuvo Teravainen, drafted this year as the 18th overall pick by the Chicago Blackhawks, netted one in return early in the second period.

The Finns turned the screws in seach of an equalizer but found Czech goalie Patrik Bartosak in mean form goal, pulling off 29 saves.

Dmitrij Jaskin secured the Czechs’ victory with an empty-net goal.

Later Friday, Canada plays Slovakia and Sweden faces Switzerland before the game of the day: Russia vs. United States.
