MOSCOW, January 1 (R-Sport) - Hockey star Alex Ovechkin and tennis player Maria Kirilenko have announced their long-rumored engagement.

The pair have been dating since 2011, with Washington Capitals center Ovechkin often spotted in the stands at Kirilenko’s matches and the tennis star dropping in on Ovechkin’s hockey games.

“We are engaged,” Ovechkin said on Twitter on New Year’s Eve shortly after posting a picture of himself on holiday with Kirilenko.

World No. 14 Kirilenko moved her training sessions to Washington to be closer to Ovechkin during the last NHL season.
