Croatia's Pletikosa Extends Rostov Stay

MOSCOW, January 23 (R-Sport) - Croatia goalkeeper Stipe Pletikosa has signed a contract extension at Russian Premier League strugglers FC Rostov, a club official told R-Sport on Wednesday.
Former Tottenham Hotspure player Pletikosa, 34, will stay with the team until the end of the 2014-2015 season.
“We’ve signed a new contract with Pletikosa for two and a half years,” Rostov vice president Alexander Shikunov said.
“We wanted to keep our captain in the team. Stipe is a very important player for Rostov, he is a favorite with the fans and a consummate professional.”
Pletikosa came to Rostov in August 2011 after a season with Tottenham, and has 99 caps for Croatia, impressing in goal for Croatia at Euro 2012.
He has won the Croatian league with Hajduk Split, the Ukrainian title with Shakhtar Donetsk and twice finished second in the Russian league with Spartak Moscow.
Pletikosa has been ever-present for Rostov this season, playing all 19 of the team's league games. Rostov are 11th in the 16-team Russian top flight.
