SOCHI, February 3 (R-Sport) - The International Ski Federation is confident in Russia’s ability to be ready for Olympic cross-country skiing in Sochi next year, an FIS spokesman told R-Sport on Sunday.
The Laura biathlon and cross-country complex in the mountains above Sochi hosted its first cross-country World Cup round on the weekend, a key test event before Olympic competition in February next year.
“We are confident that the organizing committee has been doing everything possible to be ready for the Olympic Games and you can see here that there are huge resources on the organization and on the construction part, so yes, we believe that everything will be 100 percent ready for the Olympics this year,” said Michael Lamplot, spokesman for FIS’ cross-country operations.
Sochi 2014 will be the first Winter Olympics to take place in Russia and will run from February 7 through 23 next year.
