MOSCOW, September 13 (R-Sport) – AC Milan legend Andrei Shevchenko struggled to make the transition from the football pitch to pitch-and-putt on Friday, finishing 40 shots off the lead in his first professional golf tournament.

Shevchenko posted a score of 26 over par, placing him 121st in the 130-strong field at the Kharkov Superior Cup, played in his native Ukraine.

Since retiring from football after Euro 2012, Shevchenko has also dabbled in politics, failing to win a seat in the Ukrainian parliament at elections last year.

In an unusual sporting twist to the golf tournament, former world No. 1 tennis player Yevgeny Kafelnikov was joint 112th on 16 over. Kafelnikov’s ambition is to play at the Olympics when golf joins the program in 2016.

The cut was set at one over par, and South Korea’s Sihwan Kim led the field on 14 under with two more rounds to play.
